The winner of this award will have shown that they have a firm commitment to developing their people. They will have systematic and effective processes for identifying their workforce development needs and linking these to their business objectives and will evaluate the success and impact of the training and development activities undertaken by employees.

Apprentice of the Year - sponsored by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council

The winner of this award will have shown outstanding progress and commitment to their own personal development, and their progression on a recognised learning scheme.

The judges will be looking for evidence of where an Apprentice has made a significant contribution towards their workplace and for evidence of the organisation's commitment to Apprenticeships.

The Apprentice must have been employed by the current employer before the 31st August 2018 and must be enrolled in a government funded and regulated Apprenticeship scheme delivered by contract and approved training providers.

The Winner of this Award will need to demonstrate how technology and innovation has led to an improvement or efficiency in their business, whether in just a part of a larger and established company or as part of their overall growth strategy. This technology and innovation can be around a product or service offered to customers or the way processes have been used or developed to help them to establish or grow their enterprise.

International Business of the Year - sponsored by the Gatwick Diamond Initiative

International growth has enormous benefits for the Gatwick Diamond economy. This Award will go to the organisation that best demonstrates an international growth strategy that has achieved outstanding levels of sales, profit and market share improvement.

The judges will be looking particularly for effective and innovative individual international initiatives undertaken in the past two years. (This is not an award for overall international performance so small exporting companies stand an equal chance against large companies.)

 The Gatwick Diamond is one of the strongest regional economies within the UK. It has key sector strengths in manufacturing, with companies that are thriving, innovating and competing locally and globally. The sector confronts many challenges, particularly within a rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain economy, but continues to remain competitive, sustainable and future-focused. These businesses are championed in the Manufacturing Business of the Year Award for bringing wealth-creating, job-generating success to the region.

 

Entry criteria

The GDBA 2018 Manufacturing Business of the Year category is open to any company, irrespective of size. The company must have a manufacturing operation being undertaken in the Gatwick Diamond region (this can include food and print production).
