The Gatwick Diamond Green Business Awards
Sponsor by Crawley Borough Council Green Business Programme
Once again, the Green element of the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards is being sponsored in partnership with the Green Business Programme of Crawley Borough Council.
This year, the Awards reflect the three key areas where businesses can make a difference to their environmental impact; Energy, Recycling and Travel.
The Green Award for the Use of Energy
Sponsored by EDF Energy
"We were very impressed by the range of approaches Sony DADC applied to achieve a 5% reduction in energy use from 2008 to 2009, despite a 30% increase in production in this period. Building Management Systems, efficient lighting, and other technology was used alongside a 'switch it off' campaign, all contributing to savings of 1366 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per year. The motivation, involvement and enthusiasm of staff was also impressive."
The Green Award for Recycling
Sponsored by Veolia Environment
"We were very impressed by the dedicated efforts of staff at Sony DADC to find ways to recycle as many different types of waste materials as possible, which contributed to their achieving a fantastic 96% recycling rate. Where possible, materials are reused, and cardboard is recycled as part of a 'closed loop' system. Staff involvement is very good as there is a waste focus group which meets monthly to discuss ideas and ensure communication of initiatives and achievements to all colleagues. Combinations of measuring, monitoring, technology, and participation have all been successfully implemented at Sony DADC, resulting in the high recycling rate."
The Green Award for Sustainable Travel & Transport
Sponsored by BAA Gatwick Airport
"Go-Green has been selected as winners of the award having shown to be innovative in their approach with a vision to become a leader in low carbon transport."
