The finalists of the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards (GDBA) 2010 were announced at a Sponsors & Media Breakfast held this morning at the Hilton Hotel, London Gatwick.

Chairman of the judges, Jeremy Taylor said "Recognising and rewarding business innovation and success is at the heart of these awards. The aim is to raise awareness of entrepreneurship and business excellence and to help showcase business talent in the Gatwick Diamond region."

The Gatwick Diamond Business Awards ceremony is to take place at the Gatwick Hilton on Thursday 4th March 2010 with Nick Hewer from the BBC TV show 'The Apprentice' as guest presenter. A total of 12 awards will be presented before 370 business leaders and representatives from the Gatwick Diamond region.

Twenty four judges from a diverse cross section of industry sectors chose the following finalists:



Large Business of the Year

The Winner of this Award will be the large business or organisation that has enhanced the reputation of the Gatwick Diamond as an important business centre on a regional and national basis. For the purpose of this Award we are looking for firms that employ in excess of 250 staff and/or have an annual turnover in excess of £50m.

Business Person Of the Year

The Winner will need to demonstrate that they are committed to growing their Gatwick Diamond based business, increasing headcount, developing/inspiring people and Innovation and involvement in the local business community.

 

Young Entrepreneur of the Year

The winner of this category will need to show true Entrepreneurship in leading their Gatwick Diamond based business. The awards recognise entrepreneurs who demonstrate success through innovation, planning, personal commitment and the taking of calculated business risks.

 

Employer of the Year

The Winner of this Award will need to show that their employees are central to the success of the business.

The Award for Export

The Winner of this Award will need to demonstrate that they are innovative and ambitious, keen to grow their export markets and able to demonstrate that this has had a positive impact on productivity and profitability.

 

The Award for Innovation

The Winner of this Award will need to demonstrate how innovation has led to an improvement in their business. This innovation can be around the nature of the product itself, the service offered to customers or the way they have used new processes to help them to establish or grow their enterprise.

Commitment to Developing People and Skills

The Winner of this Award will be the company or organisation that puts the development of it's own staff at the heart of their organisation, recognising that developing the people in that business will drive the business forward.

 

The Gatwick Diamond Leisure Destination

The Winner of the Leisure Destination Award will be able to demonstrate a commitment to providing an interesting and innovative experience that will encourage continuing growth in tourism in the area. In addition to the quality of the attraction or destination itself, key factors will include the ethos of welcome and service, value for money and evidence of an effective marketing plan.

 

The Award for Customer Delight

The Winner of this Award will demonstrate how the goal of Customer Delight is at the heart of their business, staff, products and services with a measurable track record in attracting and keeping customers.

 

The Gatwick Diamond Green Business Awards

Once again, the Green element of the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards is being sponsored in partnership with the Green Business Programme of Crawley Borough Council.

This year, the Awards reflect the three key areas where businesses can make a difference to their environmental impact; Energy, Recycling and Travel.

The Green Business Programme from Crawley Borough Council helps Crawley businesses adopt environmental practices that are sustainable as well as profitable, by offering free services such as site visits, newsletters, events and workshops.

 

The Green Award for the Use of Energy

The winner will need to demonstrate that they understand the impact of their use of energy and are working to mitigate that impact.

The Green Award for Recycling

The winner of the Gatwick Diamond Green Business Award for Recycling will clearly demonstrate their commitment to recycling and the positive impact on their business or organisation, as well as the local community and the environment.

 

The Green Award for Sustainable Travel & Transport

The Winner of this Award will need to demonstrate their delivery of innovative and sustainable ways of fulfilling their travel and transport needs.
