Gatwick is the busiest single-use runway airport in the world, the second busiest in the UK and the sixth largest in Europe. As the UK's leading leisure airport, it serves around 33 million passengers each year with flights to more than 200 destinations in 90 countries.

With an investment programme of nearly £1 billion over five years to 2013, Gatwick is set to be transformed into one of the world's best airports.

As a major international gateway, Gatwick plays a significant role in enabling trade and business, particularly inward investment. It is also a major economic driver for the south-east region, generating around 23,000 on-airport jobs. It is estimated that an additional 4,000 people are employed off-site in roles directly related to the airport's operation and indirectly, Gatwick creates around a further 9,000 jobs.

In 2008 Gatwick signed a legal agreement with West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council which demonstrates commitment to grow the airport to handle around 40 million passengers a year, while balancing its economic and social benefits with its environmental impacts.

The agreement underpins the important relationship that Gatwick has with its local authorities with responsibility for planning, environmental management and highways.

We are committed to operating Gatwick as a safe, secure and responsible airport business for all our passengers, airlines, staff, local communities and other stakeholders.

"London Gatwick Airport is delighted to sponsor the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards 2010 that recognise and celebrate the achievements of the best of businesses across the Gatwick Diamond region.

Companies face many challenges in the current climate and we are delighted to support an award scheme that encourages quality, customer service, innovation and the ability to compete for and win business in today's marketplace.

We are delighted to be associated with this prestigious ceremony that highlights the region's business excellence and we congratulate all of this year's winners." - Andy Flower, managing director of Gatwick
